Two people injured in three-car accident Wednesday on Highway 2

I first started at the Bemidji (Minn.) Pioneer as an intern in the summer of 1996. That would begin six years as a news reporter, sports reporter and copy editor for a small, six-day-per-week daily newspaper in northern Minnesota. I wrote a large range of stories from multiple beats, to features to sports, my favorite being the coverage of the Red Lake Reservation High School basketball team named the Warriors. Here is a collection of my stories from my time at the Pioneer.

Two people were injured in a three-car accident Wednesday on U.S. Highway 2 near the KOA campground, according to the State Patrol in Thief River Falls.

Dorothy Hendrickson, 70, of Bemidji, and Nicholas Bohn, 21, of Crystal, Minn., were both injured when Hendrickson rear-ended the vehicle in which Bohn was riding.

The accident began with a stalled car on Highway 2 in the eastbound lanes. A Bemidji towing company was called to the scene to remove the stalled vehicle, and a state trooper's squad car also was parked in the eastbound lanes to direct traffic.

Mary Neadeau, 27, of Red Lake, who was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Lumina, was the first vehicle to come upon the scene and stopped to allow the traffic to clear, according to the dispatcher.

Jeremy Hagen, 21, of Crystal, Minn., who was driving a 1995 Chevrolet pickup, stopped behind Neadeau's vehicle.

Hendrickson, driving a 1996 Mercury Marquis, was the third vehicle to come upon the scene, and drove into the rear of Hagen's pickup. And that pushed Hagen's pickup into the rear of Neadeau's vehicle.

Hendrickson was treated and released at North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji, and Bohn, a passenger in Hagen's pickup, was treated and released for back and neck pain at North Country Regional Hospital as well.

Hagen's pickup and Hendrickson's Marquis were totaled. Neadeau's Lumina sustained moderate damage.
