There comes a time when words don’t seem to be enough.
But I sincerely pray that everyone in our community hears this come from the deepest depths of my heart when I say: Thank you for rescuing, stabilizing and giving Churches United a very hopeful future moving forward again!
And that in combination with an historic giving period this past holiday season means that Churches United has gone from just a few months ago having to consider closing its doors to now having financial stability all through 2025!
Rather than talking about where our guests might have to go if we shuttered, we’re talking about how we can better serve our guests in 2025 and help them find their way into housing.
Rather than wonder where thousands of people would have turned to for food each month if we would have had to close our food pantry, we are now discussing what new partnerships we can forge with other agencies that distribute food in the community so that we can best serve our patrons.
Rather than wonder about the future ownership of our beautiful Bright Sky Apartments, our 43-unit transitional housing building, instead we will be opening early this summer an adjacent sister building called Silver Linings Apartments, a 36-unit senior-focused building intentionally focused at decreasing homelessness in one of the fastest growing demographics in America.
And rather than fearing the worst for our historic Dorothy Day House, we now have the opportunity to envision a new future for a facility that has played such a critical role in sheltering our neighbors for so many decades.
To our many thousands of supporters over the past six months, including individuals, businesses and foundations, and dozens of faith communities big and small, that have contributed everything from the contents of their piggy banks to checks totaling many thousands of dollars, we humbly say thank you for providing Churches United with a bright new dawn filled with hope!
Thanks to all of you, we’ve been able to quite metaphorically take an organization and pick it from the ashes, and now we’re poised to see it soar again!
Friends of Churches United: 2025 will be a year full of hope, and I’ve shared just some of the beginning rays of sunshine!
In the coming months, you’ll see in these newsletters and on our Facebook page dozens of more stories that will reassure you that your gifts are providing safe shelter, stable housing, nutritious food and a path to healing every single day to hundreds of your neighbors.
We ask you to stay engaged in our story! … We ask you to continue to invest your time, talent and treasure in a 38-year-old, trusted organization that has demonstrated that it moves people from shelters into housing, from food insecurity to food on the table and from fear and anxiety to a place of healing.
Please continue to join us in this work! … Please continue to allow Churches United to focus on carrying out the actual very gospel of sheltering, clothing, feeding and healing our neighbor each and every single day. Amen.
