There have been many times this past year where Carter's senior year has been upended. Many milestones have been taken away from him and millions more high school seniors like him. However, like he does so often, Carter has managed to breeze the challenges with grace and his signature smile and laugh.
But yesterday he and his buddies whom he has played sports with, went to school with and worked with since his earliest days in school displayed the pinnacle of class that these kids have learned through their challenging senior year.
These five boys have all worked in the dietary department at River Pointe assisted living in Moorhead for almost two years. And yesterday, despite not getting a school prom dance, the boys took more than an hour out of their senior prom day to bring their dates to River Pointe so that the residents whom they've become so close to over the last year of pandemic could see them and their dates in their prom finest.
I wish I could share with you the joy that this simple act of compassion brought to these residents, many of whom haven't seen their families in more than a year. It was a demonstration of kindness and humility that should teach all of us about how to make lemonade out of lemons.
Well played gentlemen! ... As the boys' supervisor told me yesterday, "These boys will excel at whatever they decide to do in life, because they've already learned the greatest lesson: kindness."
Amen to that! Proud of you son!
