Finding Faith ... in sharing how our church can effectively communicate

By Pastor Devlyn Brooks

I’m curious, Faith Family … how do you learn what is happening here at Faith Lutheran?

This was an interesting topic that came to light during our recent discussion about adding the ability to livestream our services and special events again during a special Music and Worship Committee meeting.

Do you find out things by talking to your fellow parishioners? Do you rely on the announcement period of our worship to know what’s going on?

Or frankly, do you feel that you’re often in the dark about what’s taking place here at Faith Lutheran?

I’d be curious to hear your thoughts about how well we communicate as a church, because I believe that communication is absolutely critical in any community. And I especially believe it’s critical now with so many important initiatives taking place at Faith Lutheran.

For instance, how up to speed do you feel about the efforts of our Faith Forward initiative? Or how about the myriad number of special events that will take place over the next three months? … And finally, how much do you know about the potential investments in our technological capabilities that we are considering?

It’s likely not going to surprise you that this old, ink-stained newspaper hack believes that an informed community is an engaged community. And so I’d be curious if you have ideas as to how we continue to improve our communication game.

Between the work our Faith Lutheran Church Council does, the excitement that new Faith Forward activities are generating, the activities of our youth (Sunday school, confirmation and LYO include), to the ministries such as Faith Women … there simply is a lot going on at our church and also through outreach to the surrounding community.

Selfishly, I’d like to see as many of our parishioners as involved in all of our activities as possible. Not only is it good for fellowship, and thus our mental and spiritual health, but it’s also good for the health of our congregation.

There’s an old adage that states: Success breeds success. … Similarly, there’s another saying that states: Nothing gathers a crowd, like a crowd.

Imagine what a buzz we might stir in our community and beyond if we were able to draw a good crowd to each of our events! The community couldn’t help but wonder about becoming a part of that vibrant Faith Lutheran! “Look at all those people enjoying it!” they’d say!

And all of this starts with good communication. So, Faith Family … I’m all ears!

Please share with me what kind of communication you find valuable? And even what ways we could communicate that we haven’t yet thought of. Thank you!

Blessings to you this November, Faith Family! ... See you in church!
